Croatia is a small country at the crossroads of Central Europe and the Adriatic Sea. In 2023, it fully joined both the Schengen Area and the eurozone. Croatia offers a combination of European comfort and seaside living. It is easy to communicate in English here — Croatia ranks second in the world in English proficiency among non-native English speakers.

The digital nomad residence permit is issued for 18 months. After that, it can be extended for another year, provided you have a rental agreement.
The residence permit allows you to work only remotely — for a foreign employer or through your own company registered abroad. It also gives you the option to “reset” your migration strategy. You can:
  • move to a work-based residence permit in Croatia;
  • or use this status as a soft entry into the EU and later move to another country, such as Spain, Portugal, and others.
