Montenegro is located at the crossroads of Eastern and Western Europe, giving it a strategic position for business. The Balkans provide access to key sea routes and offer convenient logistics links with other European countries - creating strong opportunities for importing and exporting goods and services.

After 5 years of continuous residence on a temporary residence permit, you may apply for permanent residence. After an additional 5 years, a resident may become eligible to apply for Montenegrin citizenship through naturalization (subject to meeting the legal requirements). A Montenegrin passport is considered especially attractive given the country’s ambition to join the EU and the Schengen Area - if and when this happens, Montenegrin citizens would gain many of the advantages associated with EU membership.

Company registration in Montenegro is fast (around 12 days) and relatively affordable, with minimal ongoing business requirements. A foreign national can register a company in almost any field - from tourism to IT - and may even be the sole employee of the business.
